Christmas for Kids
Several years ago, David traveled to Uganda to perform in the largest public auditorium in the country. While there he met up with close friend and pastor Gary and Marilyn Skinner; only to discover that they not only pastored the largest church in the country, but also ran a huge orphanage for hundreds of kids who had lost their parents due to act of war or the AIDS virus.
When going to the orphanage homes to do a mini-concert, David met the kids, some of whom had been left to die as babies in garbage dumps and on the streets, or who were infected with the AIDS virus themselves. “These where some of the most well-disciplined and well-mannered kids I have ever met,” David states. “What grabbed me the most was the fact that they seemed liked the happiest kids in the world.”
Within a short time after returning to America, the singer and songwriter formed the Christmas project ‘Christmas for Kids’ to help such kids.
With the help of Spalding, the sports company, British Airways, schools, businessmen and individuals from different parts of the world, toys and sports equipment are sent to hundreds of kids each year. This project has also sent chainsaws to help clear the land so as to build additional orphanage homes.
His goal is to make Christmas for 1,000 kids next year. You as an individual, church group, work place, school or community can help bring a smile to a kid’s face this Christmas.
